Under the Public Health Tobacco Acts 2002-2015, smoking in Ireland is forbidden in enclosed spaces of work. This includes office blocks, inside buildings, public houses/bars, restaurants, etc. The purpose of this ban is to offer protection to employees and the public who are exposed to harmful toxic effects of tobacco smoke in the workplace. Moreover, smoking has also been identified as a major cause of heat diseases and a significant contributor to lung cancer (Citizens Information, 2015).
